You may not get where you're going

You may not get where you're going,
but you're gonna have fun going where you get.

When you enter an address into your GPS, you can choose the fastest route, the shortest route, or the Maggie Route.

Bamberg, South Carolina
The Maggie Route consists of turns and choices made in response to the little voice in her head. "Go back. Make a U turn. Drive through that little town." You will most likely not hear other GPS voices instructing you to "Pull over and take a picture," but it is a standard feature on the Maggie Route.

Bamberg, South Carolina
I left Charleston Tuesday morning and headed for Atlanta to pick up my traveling companion, Lee. The weather may be a bit gray, but the circuitous route keeps me entertained with roadside architecture.
Denmark, South Carolina
I love the hopefulness in the picture above. Most of the businesses in Denmark, South Carolina are empty, yet someone has enough optimism and love of gardening to landscape that thin strip of land between the sidewalk and the curb.

As I sit in traffic on Route 20 headed into Atlanta, I see one, two, three, four emergency vehicles, squeeze past on the shoulder. The accident ahead has all the roads glowing red on the GPS map. Traffic is snarled and stopped in every direction. I am grateful to be sitting still in this back-up. Without the angels, whispering their lollygag directions in my ear, I could be the one involved in the mangled collision ahead. I am grateful for my safety and content to wait. I send prayers ahead.

You may recall from previous posts that I always make a dashboard shrine when traveling. On this trip, I've picked up a new cross to add to the crystals and Buddha. They all get along nicely and keep the car blessed.

At this point, the ever optimistic Lee has no idea what is in store for him. His Eagle Scout training may come in handy on this Expedition. Destination: Crystal Hunting in Arkansas.

Its fun traveling with a guy who is both a boy scout and a graphic designer.
