Bear Bells

Life is one beautiful trip.

Many, many bells for bears.

When your very, very good friend of many, many years writes you an email late in the night, it's worth taking seriously. Not only did Guy read my blog (You, and 3 people from Ukraine, thank you.), he was quite concerned when I mentioned, that for the sake of packing efficiency, we were not taking a bear bell.

"I never leave home without my bell when going on an adventure.  It works – never seen a bear.  The only time a saw bear was once in Deep Creek while fishing (it swam across the Lake) and last year in Yosemite; both times no bell.  Have a great a time."

So off I went this morning, in search of just the right bell. Not just any bell will do. It needs to be melodic and pleasant if Joelle and I have to listen to it clanking away for miles and miles. It also has to be cheap.

Two stores later, I found the bells above, at the deeply discounted price of $5.99. Yes, this arrangement measures about 12 x 18 inches. No, we are not hiring a Sherpa to walk along the trail in front of us, carrying these on a pole. No, I am not clipping this to my backpack with a carabiner.

I'm not actually sure how I'm going to re-arrange them. Some sort of ribbon, string, elastic, bungee thing. Stay tuned.

And on another note, Guy didn't seem at all concerned about the snakes.

Today's Tune: Scarlet Begonias – Grateful Dead (Guy will get the reference.)

Today's Gratitude:

spunky puppies
