The Ceremonial Airing of the Gear |
Monday is the day I get organized. I never schedule appointments on Mondays. The day is spent reviewing my calendar, making lists, following up on phone calls and emails, and making appointments for the upcoming weeks. Thanks to this time-honored tradition, I discovered yesterday that I am actually leaving Saturday for my trip and not Sunday, as I had previously thought. Instead of panicking that there was one less day to get ready, I got excited that California was one day closer.
Time to get my butt in gear
It is a beautiful, clear day here in Charleston, perfect for the ceremonial Airing of the Gear. It's as gratifying as hanging laundry outside to dry. Let Mother Nature's clean, fresh scent permeate the fabric. No one wants to climb into a musty sleeping bag after a day of hiking and exploring.
The only question is: am I brave enough to unpack the tent? It takes the strength and determination of a Sumo wrestler to cram sleeping bags into the stuff sacks. But it takes the wisdom and patience of a structural engineer to get that tent back into its carry bag.
